Historian to share Grayslake's 'Moving Stories'

In 1895, a small, one-room, frame schoolhouse was moved from the former plank road to downtown Grayslake to become the community's village hall.

A brick veneer and 10 feet were added to the building, and today it houses the Grayslake Municipal History Museum. In the ensuing years other buildings were moved. A Gages Lake church was moved to Grayslake. Houses on the main street of the town were moved to make room for commercial structures.

These stories and others will be shared by local historian Charlotte Renehan on Wednesday, May 11, at the Grayslake Historical Society program "Grayslake's Moving Stories."

The program will start at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Grayslake Heritage Center, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake. There is no admission fee.

The program is in conjunction with the museum's newest exhibit, "Constructing a Community."
