Softball: Wauconda powers past Mundelein
Kayla Wedl, Taylor McCarthy and Mallory Carver all homered, as Wauconda's softball team blanked host Mundelein 8-0 in a North Suburban Conference crossover on Friday.
Wauconda (11-5) had 13 hits to Mundelein's three.
Wedl pitched the complete-game shutout, striking out 15 while allowing 1 walk and 3 hits. She finished 3-for-4 at the plate, while McCarthy was 3-for-5 and doubled as well. Brooke Sefcik, Carver (double, 3 RBI) and Alyssa McCarthy each had a pair of hits.
For Mundelein, Breanna Adams was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles.
Libertyville 3, Lakes 0: Winning-pitcher Hannah Heraty (14-5) pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing just 3 hits and no walks, while striking out seven in the North Suburban crossover.
Jessie Lauret got the final two outs to record the save, and the senior also went 4-for-4 at the plate. Heraty was 2-for-3 with a double, and Jamie Stevens finished 1-for-3, as Libertyville improved to 16-5.
Lakes (16-5) got a double from Camryn Jones (2-for-3).
Vernon Hills 14, Glenbrook South 4: Nicole Pieper went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI for the Cougars in the nonconference game that lasted five innings.
Sara Lenzi, Danielle Comitor (4 runs) and Mackenzie Mahler were all 2-for-4 for Vernon Hills. Anna Cirone was 1-for-1 with a double, and Delaney Bowen contributed a double and 3 RBI.
Deerfield 10, Grayslake North 2: Jessica Vaughn gave up 4 earned runs to go along with 12 hits and 2 strikeouts, as the Knights lost in nonconference action.
Vaughn went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jenna Pozezinski was 1-for-2 and collected an RBI. Grace Brown, Molly Rutkowski, Angelica Diaz and Kylie Conrad contributed other hits for Grayslake North.
Crystal Lake Central 7, Grant 5: The Bulldogs lost the nonconference game despite a strong effort from Maddy Nourigat, who had a double and 2 RBI.
Grant also got a triple from Erin Bengston.
