Cruz continues Indiana push, as unions protest plant closing

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Republican Ted Cruz continues his presidential campaign push across Indiana ahead of next week's primary while several top state Democrats are expected at a labor union protest.

The protest Friday will be of Carrier Corp.'s decision to close a 1,400-worker Indianapolis factory and shift production to Mexico.

Cruz has a rally scheduled Friday morning in Indianapolis, followed by stops later in Jeffersonville and Evansville. Cruz campaigned Thursday in northern Indiana. GOP candidate Donald Trump drew an estimated 12,000 people to an Evansville rally Thursday.

Union leaders say Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly and gubernatorial candidate John Gregg will join AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka at Friday's rally outside the Statehouse.

The union representing Carrier workers has endorsed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, while Trump has blasted the company's decision in decrying international trade agreements.
