Ex-Wheaton College student admits filming women in shower

A former Wheaton College student has pleaded guilty to placing a watch "spy camera" in the bathroom of a college-owned apartment so he could secretly record three women showering.

Alexander Lim, 25, now of Connecticut, pleaded guilty Friday to five counts of unauthorized videotaping and faces up to five years in prison. Judge John Kinsella will hand down Lim's sentence at a June 30 hearing, after reviewing a 23-page report on psychological evaluations performed on Lim since his arrest. He has been free on $75,000 bail.

Assistant State's Attorney Enza LaMonica said a female student called Wheaton College campus police on Feb. 22, 2015, when she noticed what appeared to be a watch facing directly toward her as she showered. The woman also noticed the watch had a camera on its face.

LaMonica said an investigation found the camera was "filled with video files" of the three women who lived in the apartment undressing and showering since October 2014.

Lim admitted he began deleting files when he realized the police were investigating, but LaMonica said officials were able to find several of the videos he had posted online.

"This morning, Alexander Lim admitted that on multiple occasions he violated the privacy of several young women while they showered in their own home," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement after the hearing. "Such an invasion of privacy is not a harmless college prank, as (Lim) is now well aware."

Lim, a citizen of Singapore, was expelled from Wheaton College in June 2015 and is living with an uncle and other family members in Connecticut.
