UEFA opens case against Sakho after failed doping test

NYON, Switzerland (AP) - UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Mamadou Sakho after the Liverpool defender failed a doping test.

Sakho did not ask for his backup sample to be analyzed and he is now waiting to discover the date of his disciplinary hearing.

The sample was taken after a Europa League game against Manchester United last month.

UEFA has provisionally suspended the France international for 30 days, but Liverpool had already announced that he would not play while the disciplinary process is ongoing.
