Hanover Township honors its senior volunteers

Hanover Township resident Geraldine Gipp logged more than 691 volunteer hours with the township in the past year.

That dedication was rewarded April 21, when she was honored as the township's senior volunteer of the year at the volunteer award recognition luncheon.

Gipp has been volunteering with the township since 2011. She's part of the Knit and Crochet Group that knits blankets, hats and other items donated to mothers and babies at local hospitals.

More than 220 senior volunteers who provided more than 22,105 hours of service in the past year were recognized at the luncheon.

Awards also were given to Jeannine and William Havlik, for home delivered meals drivers of the year; Maria Roman, for the most versatile volunteer of the year; and the volunteer staff of the Stars-N-Stripes Café, which was named community partner of the year.

"We are fortunate to have such dedicated senior volunteers that allow us to offer programs and services in a cost effective, efficient manner," said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire. "This is a small way to show our gratitude and remind them that their hard work

does not go unnoticed or unappreciated."
