Mechanics Grove School celebrates the arts

Several students and their parents had the chance to master hip-hop moves with professional dancer Chris Rosales while others learned how to create drawings with cartoonist Jeff Tuecke during Celebration of Learning and the Arts at Mechanic Grove Elementary School on Thursday.

Other guest artists at the Mundelein school shared their expertise in such areas as percussion, mehndi and storytelling.

"It is such an exciting night. We are starting with the Celebration Singers, the school chorus. They have been working really hard to prepare for tonight. There is usually 90 to 100 percent turnout," explained Principal Tanya Fergus.

In addition to the artists, third- through fifth-grade students displayed their own artwork in the hallways and in the classrooms as part of portfolio night so that they could share them with their families.
