Artists show their works at 'Speakeasy' benefit

The David Adler Music and Arts Center will hold its annual silent art auction, the "Speakeasy" benefit, from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the historic home of renowned architect David Adler.

The event will feature the best of Lake County's artistic, musical, and fine dining offerings. More than 60 original pieces of fine art will be up for auction, including watercolors, woodwork, photography, paintings, and glass work.

Vernon Hills artist Karen Altschul is donating a digital photograph of a le comte rose.

"I enjoy participating in the silent art auction because it's important to support the Adler Center's endeavors," Altschul said. "Also, it's a great chance for a lot of people to see my work."

Participating artists come from Chicago, Grayslake, Lake Bluff, Lake Villa, Waukegan and Libertyville. They include Barb Beckman, David Bertaud, David Robbin, Edie Ottoman, Jan and Masako Van Leijenhorst, Jason Daniel, Jeanne Garrett, Jim Brooksher, Joyce Andre, Linda Kollacks, Lynne Krestan, Pat King, Paula Kuehl, Phillip Ross, Pricilla Powers, Shawn Killackey, Skip Wiese, Stephanie Toral, Susan Russell, Tanya Facchini and Terrance Johnson.

"The David Adler Music and Arts Center unites the past with the present in a beautiful historic setting … to have one's artwork in David Adler's Libertyville home is an honor," said Marcia Babler, a Libertyville artist whose eerie landscape, "Leenane," is also up for auction.

The Adler Center's annual fundraiser will also feature Prohibition-era cocktails, gourmet appetizers by Chef Briana Cardone of Mambo Italiano and The Couture Caterer, live jazz music by the Highland Park Pops Big Band, and additional small plates by Café Pyrenees, Sunset Foods, and Tsukasa of Tokyo.

Mundelein's Tighthead Brewing Company will feature their fine craft beers along with wine and signature cocktails by NorthShore Distillery. Purchase tickets in advance by visiting www.adlercenter.org.

For more than 35 years, the David Adler Music and Arts Center has offered music and art classes, scholarships and free art exhibits, and has hosted communitywide events like Fine Arts Month and the Annual Festival of the Arts held every August in Cook Park.

The Adler Center's only annual benefit will maintain and grow the Center's offerings of art and music instruction, summer camps, workshops, concerts and art exhibitions.

The David Adler Music and Arts Center is at 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
