Softball: Lyon, Heraty lead Libertyville past Stevenson

Lyndsey Lyon hit a solo homer, Hannah Heraty pitched a five-inning shutout, and Libertyville's softball team managed the rain and cold well enough to earn a 7-0 win over visiting Stevenson on Wednesday.

Libertyville improved to 15-5 and 6-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division, while handing Stevenson (7-10, 3-4) its sixth loss in a row.

Heraty (13-5) struck out five, while allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

"Hannah did a great job staying focused today," Libertyville coach Elissa Wisniewski said. "It's very hard to pitch in weather conditions like this, especially when you can't feel your fingers and the ball is wet. She showed her mental toughness by not letting the weather dictate her performance."

Heraty (RBI) and Sarah Hoyer (double, 3 RBI) both went 2-for-3. Kenzie Rother was 1-for-1.

"The team did a great job staying energized," Wisniewski said, "and controlling what they could on a day with a lot of outside influences."

Alyssa Pauly and Myra Peterson (double) had Stevenson's only hits.
