Palatine speaker gives young entrepreneurs tips

Jim Nowakowski, president of Interline Creative Group, Inc., welcomed the Palatine Chamber of Commerce's Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA), providing insight into what is required to convert an idea into a successful business.

Nowakowski's presentation centered on the premise that good ideas are not hard to come by, but that good ideas alone cannot build a business. Elements such as hard work, sound decisions, and financial backing, are what can allow good ideas to blossom into viable and sustainable sources of income.

"Everyone has an idea," explains Nowakowski. "It's knowing what is required between the idea and a moneymaking reality, that is the difficult part. Always think things through. That is the message I wanted to impart on these young people during our visit."

Nowakowski used the time to stress the importance of what he terms, "The Three "L's" of Business." These are: Listen, Learn, and Leverage. He emphasized the importance of good listening, the necessity for continuous learning, and how having leverage is essential for effective negotiation.

The lively and often entertaining presentation was structured to be interactive, allowing for an open discussion, which included a question-and-answer period. YEA members were treated to a lighthearted approach on what it takes to be successful entrepreneurs.

"Jim was a great presenter and very informative," says Steve Gaus, executive director of the YEA program. "It would have been fun to spend more time there."
