Help stock the shelves of the Batavia food pantry

More than 100 volunteers from various churches and organizations will join Jewel-Osco and Berkeley Food Stores to help restock the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry shelves Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1.

Volunteers in red aprons will pass out shopping lists of suggested items needed as well as collect any donated food items.

There will be containers for cash donations. Through a partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, a $1 donation purchases $8 worth of food. All donations collected will be taken to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry where another group of volunteers will sort and shelve items for distribution.

The Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry serves about 1,000 Batavia and Batavia Township residents each month, providing shelf stable food, fresh bread, fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs and frozen meat.

The food pantry is at 100 Flynn Drive in downtown Batavia, two blocks south of Wilson Street, near the river. Hours of Operation are 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday; and 10 a.m. to noon Friday. The Food Pantry also is open from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday for produce and bread pick up only.

Plan on supporting Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry Food Sharing Days on April 30 and May 1, at either Jewel Osco or Berkeley Food Store from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
