Baseball: Sojda's gem leads Streamwood past Elgin

Adam Sojda tossed a 4-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks Tuesday as Streamwood defeated Elgin 4-0 in an Upstate Eight River baseball game at Elgin.

Keagan Cordone had 2 hits with a double for the Sabres (4-11, 1-6) while Sojda added 2 hits with an RBI and Jr Alvarez went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Eddy Ramos had 2 hits for Elgin (4-15, 3-4) and was the losing pitcher.

South Elgin 9, West Aurora 3: Justin Howard went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Mitch Butvilas had 2 hits, Joe Roberson 2 hits and 2 RBI, Jake Miller 2 hits and an RBI and Patrick Keaty 3 RBI to lead the Storm (10-4, 4-0) to a UEC Valley win. Jack Stancl was the winning pitcher, going the complete game and allowing 7 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks.

St. Charles East 7, Larkin 1: In the UEC River, Corbin Marucco had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI while Kyle Tiltges (2B, RBI), Jim Dale (2B, RBI), Monty Carbonell (3 hits) and Joe Sciarrino (2B) also contributed to the win for the Saints (12-6, 4-3). Matt Bredigan picked up the win on the mound allowing 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings. Joey Rahn had 2 hits for Larkin (2-14, 0-9) and Zach Edgar took the loss.

Glenbard East 7, Bartlett 0: Tripp Paris and Mike Prang had the only hits for Bartlett (5-12, 2-2) in this UEC Valley defeat.

Kaneland 11, Sycamore 3: Jake Marczuk went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI while Joe Laudont (2B, RBI), Luke Calabrese (2B, 3B), Jack Marshall, Matt O'Sullivan (3 RBI) and Preston Havis each had 2 hits for Kaneland (7-6, 3-1) in this Northern Illinois Big XII win. Jacob Violett was the winning pitcher, allowing 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings.

ACC 8, Wheaton Academy 3: Johnny Belskis had 3 hits and an RBI and Mario Magana added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Chargers (13-6, 8-0) to a Metro Suburban West win. Jimmy Laurenti and Jake Smith (RBI) added 2 hits each for Aurora Central. Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing just 1 earned run on 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Glenbard South 5, St. Edward 1: Jason Allen and Matthew Schimbke had the only hits for the Green Wave (4-16, 1-10) in this Metro Suburban West loss.

Westminster Christian 8, Harvest Christian 5: Nathen Martinez had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI as the Warriors (9-13, 8-0) stayed unbeaten in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Tyler Schoemann (2 hits, 2B), Matthew Schulenburg (2 hits), Justin Rasmussen (2 RBI) and Nick DeMaira (2B) also contributed offensively. Schoemann was the winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings. Losing pitcher Drew Lewis had 2 hits for Harvest (12-9, 4-5).

Huntley 13, Belvidere North 3: Joe Rizzo had 2 hits including a home run and 4 RBI to lead the Red Raiders (13-7) to a nonconference win. Also contributing for Huntley were Jeff Heinrich (3 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Tyler Koss (3B, RBI) and Trevor Ranallo (2 hits, RBI). Nick Laxner was the winning pitcher.

Jacobs 7, Providence 5: Stevie Krueger (2 hits), Cameron Wilson (2 hits, 2 RBI), Mike Addante (2B, 2 RBI) and Kraeton Moll (3 hits, 2B, RBI) led Jacobs (13-5) to this nonconference win. Evan Liebau picked up the win in relief for the Golden Eagles.

Batavia 6, Marmion 4: Luke Beckmann had 2 hits while Andrew Costigan (RBI) and Ben Lynam (RBI) each doubled as Batavia (9-5) won this nonconference game. Glenn Albanese, Jr. was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits and no earned runs with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in 7 innings. Trevor Taus had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for Marmion (8-10). Brandon McPherson added 2 hits and an RBI and Nick Brummel had 2 hits. Zach Lentz took the loss.

Chicago U-High 9, Elgin Academy 0: The Hilltoppers (14-6) had just 3 hits in losing this Independent School League game.
