What a sorry state we're in on IDs

My wife and I recently stayed with our daughter and son-in-law at the Army base at which he is stationed. Each time we drove on the base they were required to show their military IDs and we had to show our identification, which happened to be our Illinois drivers' licenses.

Our daughter casually remarked that it was a good thing we came when we did because effective May 1, Illinois drivers' licenses will no longer be accepted as valid ID's to get on the base.

Our state has had 11 years to get compliant with the law, and for 11 years the Secretary of State's Office and the Democratic controlled-legislature has refused to do so. Instead, during that time, our state has allowed illegal aliens to get access to drivers licenses.

Only five states are in non-compliance with the federal law. What a sorry state we are - to provide a privilege to those who break the law rather than to comply with federal law.

Another prime example of the Democratic controlled legislature to keep kicking the can down the road rather than solve the problem. They did the same thing with public pension and education funding, and now cry foul when Governor Rauner refuses to let them kick the can down the road again.

Wake up people - it isn't Governor Rauner who created this mess, it's the 30 years of Mike Madigan and the Democrats that did. And they obviously want to continue to kick the can down the road rather than accept the reforms necessary to solve the problem.
