Baseball: Manning, Hampshire blank Woodstock

Jacob Manning threw a 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk Monday to lead the Hampshire baseball team to a 2-0 win over Woodstock in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game.

Manning also had 2 doubles for the Whip-Purs (10-10, 4-6) while Carter Lawler (RBI) and Matthew Wians added doubles. Kyle Homa also had an RBI for Hampshire.

Jacobs-CL South suspended: This was one day Mother Nature was victorious.

With host Crystal Lake South leading Jacobs 6-4 after 3½ innings, the Fox Valley Conference game was postponed because of heavy rains and lightning Monday afternoon.

No reschedule date was announced.

In the shortened game, both teams excelled offensively.

Nebraska-bound junior Mike Addante led off the game with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Cameron Wilson to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Benefiting from 3 walks, the Gators plated 5 runs in the bottom of the first. The key hits were a 2-RBI single from Nick Wolski and run-scoring singles by Mike Humphrey and Kory Olsen.

Jacobs climbed to within a run of the Gators at 5-4 with 3 in the third courtesy of RBI singles by Wilson and Adam Kale along with an RBI groundout from Tim Randl.

Cam Geisser hammered a long solo homer to lead off the bottom of the inning for South to produce the last run of the game.

The Gators, who were aided by 5 walks and 2 errors, managed 4 hits in 3 at-bats.

Jacobs, which stranded 8 runners, collected 10 hits. Wilson paced the offensive attack for the Eagles with a 3-for-3 effort and 2 RBI while Stevie Krueger and Nate Meland tallied 2 hits each.

Kaneland 7, Sycamore 4: Luke Calabrese (2 RBI), Matt O'Sullivan (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Jack Marshall each hit home runs to lead Kaneland (6-6, 2-1) to a Northern Illinois Big XII win. Joe Laudont added 2 hits with a double for the Knights, as did Jacob Violett. O'Sullivan was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in 7 innings.

West Aurora 5, Elgin 3: Cody Wyeth had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Matt Desjardine drove in 2 runs as West Aurora (5-8-1) won this Upstate Eight crossover. Jake Lipscomb added 2 hits with a double for the Blackhawks and Win Kipp picked up the win on the mound, going the complete game and allowing 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. Brandon Stork had 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI and Rigoberto Sanchez added 2 hits with a double for Elgin (4-14). Miguel Perez also had 2 hits for the Maroons. Matt Turner was the losing pitcher.

St. Francis 9, Marmion 3: Trevor Taus had 2 hits with a double for Marmion (8-6, 4-4) in this Chicago Catholic League loss.

Aurora Christian 30, IMSA 0: The Eagles (13-4-1, 8-0) pounded out 21 hits including home runs from RD Lutze (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Dustin Barrett (2 hits, 2 RBI) in this Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Robert Lewis (3 RBI), Zach Zavasnik (2 RBI), Ethan Stoneberg (4 hits, 2B, 4 RBI), Jacob Daley (2B, 3 RBI), Gerald Marrero (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI) and Eric Hernandez (2 hits, 2 RBI) also had big days at the plate for AC. Lutze was the winning pitcher, allowing no hits with 8 strikeouts in 3 innings. Tanner Dissell went the final 2 innings and allowed 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.

ACC 13, Wheaton Academy 1: Jake Smith went 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and 3 RBI and Sean Sinisko had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Chargers (12-6, 7-0) to a Metro Suburban West win. Micheal Bieterman (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Johnny Belskis (2B), Ryan Poplawski (2B, 2 RBI) and Mario Magana (3B, 2 RBI) also contributed for Aurora Central. Sinisko was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Glenbard South 13, St. Edward 4: In the MSC West, Dylan Murray and Matthew Schimbke (RBI) had 2 hits each and Joe Esposito added a double for St. Edward (4-15, 1-10).
