Bring unwanted prescriptions to Streamwood police April 30

The Streamwood Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration will accept unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs during an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the police station, 401 E. Irving Park Road.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. No liquids, needles or sharps will be accepted.

The initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs, the police department said in a news release Monday.
