Aurora police investigating weekend shootings

Aurora police are investigating three gun-related cases from over the weekend, at least two of which may be gang-related.

In the most serious case, two Aurora men were wounded by gunfire early Sunday morning after an attack at a gasoline station.

Police said three men, at least two of whom were armed, fired several shots at the victims from an adjacent yard just north of the gas station on the first block of North Hill Avenue.

The two victims were among a group of at least six men who arrived within moments of each other in three separate vehicles. The men who were wounded were standing outside the vehicles in which they arrived.

Police said the shooting may be gang-related. Detectives are sorting through evidence and conflicting accounts from witnesses to determine exactly what took place.

The most seriously injured victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot in the neck and buttocks. He's expected to survive and is being treated at a suburban hospital where he was flown after initial treatment at an Aurora hospital.

The other victim is 34 and was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and another to his arm.

A second possibly gang-related shooting occurred just after 5 p.m. Sunday on the 700 block of North View Street.

A 35-year-old man told police he walked out his backdoor to find an armed man standing on the south side of New Haven Avenue pointing a gun at him.

The suspect fired several rounds after the intended victim ducked for cover behind a vehicle in his driveway. The shooter then fled east on New Haven in a gray SUV.

Both the vehicle the man took cover behind and his house were hit by gunfire, causing about $1,000 damage.

Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.

In an unrelated case, a 16-year-old Aurora boy was charged with three felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a vehicle in which he was riding was stopped around 12:30 a.m. Monday near Mitchell and Indian Trail.

Police said they found a loaded .22 caliber revolver in the boy's possession when searching the car. Three other teens in the car were charged with curfew violations and were released to their parents.
