Baseball: Naperville Central, Lake Park, Glenbard East win
Naperville Central 2-6, Waubonsie Valley 0-3:
By sweeping the doubleheader the Redhawks (16-4, 10-2) swept the three-game series and are now the lone team with only two DuPage Valley Conference losses. Tyler Brinker pitched 6 shutout innings in the opener. Naperville Central seized the Game 2 win by scoring 4 runs in the top of the eighth inning. Connor Gurnik, Beau Buchanan and Noah Cinzio had 2 hits while Gabe Soria drove in 2 runs. Liam Heath won in relief. Quinton Zielke, who pitched into the eighth inning for Waubonsie Valley (11-7, 6-6), went 2-for-4.
Lake Park 4, Naperville North 1:
Complete-game winner A.J. Ackerley struck out five and scattered 4 hits for the Lancers (11-4, 6-3) in DuPage Valley play. Seven players had a hit for Lake Park.
Glenbard East 7, Batavia 1:
A 6-run bottom of the first set the tone for the Rams (12-6) in their Upstate Eight Conference crossover win. Brett Tomlinson was the complete-game winning pitcher. Joey Moore drove in 2 runs.
St. Francis 16, Marmion 10:
The Spartans (17-1, 8-1) won for the 10th straight time, including eight straight in the Chicago Catholic League. Brett Whelton went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI. Connor Quinn had 3 hits and Foster Heise drove in 2 runs. Colin Wisted won on the mound.
Neuqua Valley 14, WW South 3:
Eric Nelson drove in 5 runs for the Wildcats (10-6, 7-5), who swept the three-game DuPage Valley Conference series with a five-inning victory. James Gargano went 3-for-4 and Will Drake and Max Vercautren drove in 2 runs. Ricky Castro was the winning pitcher. Jordan Coakley went 2-for-2 with a double for the Tigers (5-10, 3-9).
Metea Valley 6, Wheaton North 5:
After falling behind 4-0 in the second inning, the Mustangs (9-8, 5-7) rallied to victory in the DuPage Valley. Blake Nicolls drove in 2 runs while Ryan Mecaskey and Conner Lovely had 2 hits. Ryan Muehlfelt, who had 2 RBI, and John Carlson went 2-for-4 for Wheaton North (10-6, 6-3).
York 5, Oak Park 1:
The Dukes (12-6, 7-2) won for the ninth time in 10 games and took their second straight game from Oak Park in West Suburban Silver play. Cam Fowler and Josh Hovance each had 2 hits. Cole Miller pitched 6 innings for the win and Brennan McGovern earned the save.
Lisle Tournament:
The host Lions (12-8) won the tournament with victories over Guerin, Latin and Fenton.
Downers South 3-11, Addison Trail 0-5:
The Mustangs (11-6, 6-3) swept in the West Suburban Gold. Zack Jones pitched 6 shutout innings in the opener before Downers South exploded for 10 runs in the first two innings of Game 2. Corey Vondra and Ben Ficht drove in 3 runs apiece. Alex Hernandez went 2-for-3 in Game 2 for Addison Trail (7-9, 3-5).
Carmel 7-4, Benet 6-7:
The Redwings (6-9, 2-3) claimed the second game to forge a split in the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader. Tyler Bautista, Marty Dosen and C.J. Birck all drove in 2 runs. Mike Dunn pitched into the seventh inning to earn the victory.
Glenbard North 7, Rolling Meadows 6:
Nick Barrett doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Panthers (5-13) in nonconference play. Barrett, who had 3 RBI, Nick Frawley and Zach Bachara each went 2-for-3. Nick Kuhar was the winning pitcher in relief.
Timothy Christian 2, Walther Christian 0:
Shaun Van Tholen pitched 6-plus scoreless innings and Carter Johnson notched the final two outs for the save in the Metro Suburban East win for the Trojans (11-6, 8-3).
