Discovery reaches Olympic TV deal with YLE in Finland

LONDON (AP) - Finnish broadcaster YLE has reached a deal with Discovery Communications for domestic TV rights for the 2018 and 2020 Olympics.

Discovery, which owns Eurosport and holds European rights through 2024, sub-licensed the rights to Finland's national broadcaster for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The games will be available in Finland on Discovery's TV5, Eurosport, and YLE. Discovery will retain exclusive content and prime-time highlights, which will be shown on TV5 and Eurosport.

TV5 will have exclusive rights for men's ice hockey at the Pyeongchang Games.

Discovery, the U.S.-based media giant, secured the European rights last year across 50 countries for four Olympics from 2018 to 2024 in a deal worth 1.3 billion euros ($1.45 billion). Discovery has also reached sub-licensing deals with the BBC in Britain, and NOS in the Netherlands.
