Baseball: Burlington Central wins in 10 innings

David Lauber doubled and scored the winning run on an error in the top of the 10th inning Thursday as the Burlington Central baseball team defeated Genoa-Kingston 4-3 in a Big Northern East game in Genoa.

Ryan Knowlton added a triple and an RBI for the Rockets (9-7, 5-1) and Kyle Creadon picked up the win on the mound.

St. Charles North 20, Larkin 0: The North Stars (13-2, 9-0) pounded out 22 hits in winning this Upstate Eight River game. Connor Bizik (2 hits, 3B, 4 RBI) and John Lagare (2 hits, 2 RBI) each homered for SCN while Sean Krueger, Tim Hasto (2 hits), Kyle Novotney (2 hits), Tyler Mettetal (2 RBI) and Sam Faith (2 RBI) each had doubles. Jake Chantos (2 hits, 2 RBI) added a triple. Jack Lambert allowed just 1 hit with 11 strikeouts and no walks in 4 innings to earn the win. Zach Edgar had a double for Larkin (2-14, 0-9).

Bartlett 4, West Chicago 0: In the Upstate Eight Valley, Mike Prang tossed a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks for the Hawks (5-10, 2-1). Austin Hilvert had 3 hits with a double and an RBI to lead the Bartlett offense.

Geneva 10, Elgin 0: Dylan Baer (2B, RBI), Justin Harrington (2 hits, 2 RBI), Jack Olson (2 hits), Vincent MacDonald (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Josh Ross (2 hits, RBI) and Jeremy Davis (2 hits, RBI) led Geneva (13-4, 9-1) to a UEC River win over Elgin (4-12, 3-3). Trevor Wilcox went 6 innings allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

South Elgin 12, East Aurora 4: Nate Gomez had 2 hits and 3 RBI as South Elgin (8-4, 3-0) won this UEC Valley matchup. Also adding to the offense for the Storm were Kevin Barry (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Mitch Butlivas (2B), Joe Roberson (2B, 2 RBI), Michael Cipriani (2B, RBI), Cameron Kovanda (2B) and winning pitcher Jack Stancl (2B), who allowed 6 hits with 8 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 earned run.

Westminster Christian 10, IMSA 0: Ian Merlak had 2 hits with a double and Luis Aguinaga added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Warriors (8-12, 7-0) to a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Nathen Martinez had 2 RBI for Westminster, Theron Dorsey 2 hits and Sam Huguley 2 hits and 2 RBI. Mason Runkel allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 innings for the win.

Ridgewood 4, St. Edward 3: In the Metro Suburban, Ridgewood scored twice in the top of the seventh to beat the Green Wave (4-12, 1-9). Tyler Holte had a double for St. Edward and Jason Allen took the loss despite allowing only 4 hits.

ACC 5, Walther Christian 1: Also in the MSC, Jake Smith and Sean Sinisko combined on a five-inning no-hitter for the Chargers (12-5, 6-1). Sinisko also had a double and 2 RBI while Jimmy Laurenti added 2 hits for Aurora Central.

Elgin Academy 17, Schaumburg Christian 4: Andrew Wilson had 4 hits with 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Ian Wilson had 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI to lead Elgin Academy (13-5) to a nonconference win. Also contributing for the Hilltoppers were Karl Rauschenberger (3 hits, 2 RBI), Jonathan Cruz (3 hits, 2 2Bs, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Kevin Kuykendall (2 hits, RBI), Jordan Hare (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Henry Stone (3 hits, 2 2Bs, RBI).

Montini 7, Marmion 6: Bobby Pierce had a home run and 3 RBI, Will Matthews 3 hits and Cole Bonebrake a double and 3 RBI for Marmion (8-7, 4-4) in this Chicago Catholic League loss. Matt Henkel added 2 hits for the Cadets.

Cary-Grove 7, Lake Forest 6: Matt McCumber (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Collin Walsh (2 hits, 2B, RBI) led the Trojans (10-7) to this nonconference win. Nick Kirk added 2 hits for Cary-Grove as did Dominic Calamari.

Palatine 8, Jacobs 7: Mike Addante had 2 hits with a home run for Jacobs (12-3) in this nonconference loss. Nate Meland added 3 hits with a double for the Golden Eagles, Cameron Wilson had 2 hits and Adam Kale 2 RBI.

Barrington 2, Huntley 0: Jeff Heinrich and Joe Rizzo had 2 hits each for Huntley in this nonconference loss. Nick Laxner took the loss despite allowing just 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks.
