Softball: Ruggles, Dundee-Crown handle Cary-Grove

Sophomore Sydney Ruggles struck out 14 and allowed just 5 hits Thursday as the Dundee-Crown softball team defeated Cary-Grove 5-1 in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action.

Deanna Origer went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI for the Chargers (9-9, 2-3) while Ruggles, Cady English and Hannah Gestrich (RBI) each had 2 hits.

Alyssa Gurgone and Colleen Kaveny each doubled for Cary-Grove (5-8, 1-3). Rachel Stanley was the losing pitcher.

McHenry 11, Jacobs 7: Jess Mrzlak, Sarah Murray and Teaghan Richman (2 RBI) each had doubles and Emily Borg 2 hits and 2 RBI for Jacobs (2-7, 2-3) in this FVC Valley loss.

Streamwood 10, Larkin 5: Jessica Daley had 2 hits with a double, Becky Roncone 2 RBI, Ariana Wolford 2 RBI and Celena Feliciano 2 RBI to lead the Sabres (6-7, 2-1) to an Upstate Eight River win. Taylyr Crocilla was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits with 13 strikeouts and 5 walks.

Batavia 17, East Aurora 1: Jaelen Lisberg had 4 hits including 2 triples, a double and a home run and 7 RBI to lead the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-1) to an Upstate Eight win. Winning pitcher Rachael Lovestrand also had 4 hits including a home run, double, triple and 4 RBI while Toni Galas, Jessica Kleist and Alyssa Klemm (3B) each had 3 hits and an RBI. Tori Isom added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Breiann Cruz had 2 hits with a double and an RBI.

West Aurora 12, Elgin 0: Hannah Beatus and Payton Lundberg combined for a no-hitter as West Aurora (10-1, 5-0) won this UEC game over Elgin (3-11, 2-6). Beatus also had 2 hits with a double and an RBI while Jamie McCreedy had a grand slam home run, Cara Jimenez 2 hits and Kallie Rundle 2 hits and an RBI.

Kaneland 7, Yorkville 4: In the Northern Illinois Big XII, winning pitcher Aly Jesionowski (6 IP, 4 Ks, 1 BB, 2 ER) was 4-for-4 with 2 triples and an RBI to lead the Knights 11-5, 3-2) to the win. Morgan Weber added 2 hits and 3 RBI and Hannah Theobald a double for Kaneland.

St. Francis 8, Rosary 1: Riley Mccue had a double for Rosary (4-9, 3-3) in this GCAC loss. Emma Molenhouse took the loss for the Royals.

ACC 8, Riverside-Brookfield 2: In the Metro Suburban West, Danielle Brown had 3 hits including a home run with 5 RBI and picked up the save in the circle to lead the Chargers (10-8, 5-2). Val Litrenta (3 hits), winning pitcher Paige Miller (3 hits, 2B, RBI) and Julia Dickerson (2 hits) also contributed for Aurora Central.

St. Charles North 5, Glenbard North 3: Jordyn Wolfe (3B), Ashlyn Jozefowicz (2 RBI), Amanda James (2 hits), Allie Moberg (2B, RBI), Alyssa Eby (2 hits, RBI) and Samantha Hausl (2B) led the North Stars' offense in this nonconference win. Maddie Webb was the winning pitcher for St. Charles North (9-2).

St. Edward 6, Lisle 5: Rachel Lesh tripled and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Green Wave (10-3) to a nonconference win. Winning pitcher Emily Stapay had 2 doubles for St. Edward while Lindsay Zdroik (2B, RBI), Jessy Kramp (2B, RBI) and Devyn Ernst (2 hits, 3 RBI) also contributed.

South Elgin 12, Benet 5: Graceanne Aldred had 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Stacy Bellack 3 hits and an RBI and Erin Bradford a triple and 2 RBI to lead the Storm (6-11) to a nonconference win. Alissa Hargett and Hannah Gordon added 2 hits each and Bailey McClure had 2 RBI. Allison Kaiser was the winning pitcher.

Westminster Christian 10, IMSA 5: In the Northeastern Athletic Conference, winning pitcher Becca Fugiel (5 IP, 2 hits, 4 Ks, 2 BB) had 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Warriors (2-8, 2-3) to the win, Taryn Boltz added 2 hits and 2 RBI for Westminster and Kaylee Johnson had a double.
