United Continental and Mattel fall; GM and Under Armour rise

Under Armour Inc., up $2.98 to $46.93

The athletic apparel company had a strong quarter and raised its annual projections as sales of Stephen Curry sneakers keep growing.

General Motors Co., up 47 cents to $32.66

The automaker said its quarterly profit more than doubled, surpassing forecasts on strong results from North America and Europe.

United Continental Holdings Inc., down $5.84 to $52.76

The airline's profit and revenue fell as its tax bills increased and fuel surcharges slipped due to low energy prices.

American Express Co., up 59 cents to $65.61

The credit card company posted strong results as it gained more than 5 million new card accounts and spending grew.

Las Vegas Sands Corp., down $4.79 to $47.39

The casino operator's profit and sales fell short of expectations and it said business in Macau remains difficult.

Newmont Mining Corp., up $1.74 to $32.19

The gold and copper mining company reported a larger-than-expected profit, and gold prices rose Thursday.

Mattel Inc., down $1.91 to $31.13

The toy maker took a bigger-than-expected loss and investors were disappointed with Barbie sales.

Viacom Inc., up $5.18 to $42.56

Viacom and Dish Network reached a new deal that will see Dish continue to broadcast Viacom programming.
