The Beast is a beauty to kids at Carmel High School

Small children watched in wonder Wednesday morning as the Beast roared onto the stage during Carmel Catholic High School's production of "Beauty and the Beast" in the school auditorium.

The fine arts department at the Mundelein school is performing Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" for audiences of all ages this weekend.

But the young viewers from Our Lord Little Ones day care in Mundelein were among those getting a sneak preview of the show during a dress rehearsal Wednesday.

"It is so much fun. I've been in love with Belle since I was little," said Phoebe Paslaski, one of the actresses portraying the lead role in the school's spring musical. "We were all surprised because it is such a big show but we managed to pull it off because we have a great team here."

The classic story is about a young French woman named Belle who encounters the Beast who lives in a castle. The Beast is actually a young prince placed under a spell by an enchantress. The drama centers around the question whether Beast can learn to love and be loved, thus ending the curse and transforming him to his former self.

"I am very proud of the big group effort of cast, crew, pit, and the music is beautiful. Everybody is really going to love the show," said director Denise Sebastiano.

The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in the school auditorium, 1 Carmel Parkway, Mundelein.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students, and can be ordered online at carmelcatholichs.ticketleap.com/beauty or calling (847) 388-3450.
