District 212 tech student to participate in Student Tech Leadership Summit

Forty student technology leaders from Leyden High School District 212 will participate in the Student Technology Leadership Summit to be held on Friday, April 22, at Maine East High School. About 500 students from over 30 schools are scheduled to attend and participate in the event.

Technology students from District 212, Maine Township High School District 297, Niles Township High School District 219 and Evanston Township High School District 202 were instrumental in helping to plan and coordinate the day's activities.

Jaime Casap, Google's Chief Education Evangelist, will present the keynote address beginning at 9 a.m. Casap works with schools and educational organizations to bring technological innovations into educational settings. He has worked with hundreds of school districts and built partnerships across the country.

Technology students, who work the technology help desk at their high schools, will lead break-out sessions at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The sessions cover various topics, including video game design, electronic instrumental programming, Android Apps and online learning. Fifteen of the 45 presentations will feature Leyden students. A closing panel discussion moderated by Casap and student leaders will begin at 2 p.m.

Google and CDW are Executive Sponsors of the event and will provide T-shirts and lunch for attendees. Other sponsors for the event include Follett and Hapara.

Maine East High School is located in Park Ridge.
