Girls soccer: Comeback win for Grayslake North

Grayslake North 4, CL Central 2: Lauren Davis scored twice, and Grayslake North's girls soccer team rallied in the second half to beat Crystal Lake Central 4-2 in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division action on Tuesday.

The Knights (7-2-2, 2-0) trailed 1-0 at halftime, despite some good play.

"We were so determined going forward, and we were in such a groove offensively that we lost our focus on the defensive side of the ball and CLC made us pay with their only chance of the half," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "After halftime, we knew that we would continue to create quality chances but knew that we needed to be a bit more efficient in front of goal, and if we did, we would find ourselves turning this game around."

That's what happened. Five minutes into the second half, Freshman Jordyn Gerdes controlled a cross from senior Kelley O'Brien before placing a left- footed shot into the far corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1. Just seven minutes later, junior Morgan Lyon put her chance away off a throw in to give the Knights a 2-1 lead of 2-1.

With just six minutes to play, junior Sydney Paez played a ball into the path of the sophomore Davis, who placed a shot low and hard across their keeper and into the back of their net.

Davis buried a free kick for a 4-1 advantage, before the Tigers got one goal back.

Wauconda 7, Antioch 1: Kayla Wisniewski scored four goals and Erica Miller had 3 assists for the Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie match.

"We would not have imagined a result like this coming into this game," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "Everything was just clicking today. Much of what we were practicing (Monday) was executed really well on the field, and we came out fast in the first half. To Antioch's credit, they didn't give up. They were fighting the whole way.

"We played really confidant soccer today," Shogren added. "Our girls don't let these wins get to their head. They come to practice ready to work and improve. We have really been blessed with a special team. All of the girls played well today, especially in the first half. It was probably our best half of soccer this season."

Courtney Coleman scored her 11th goal of the season for Antioch (4-4-4, 1-2).

Vernon Hills 6, Round Lake 0: Becky Bahlmann scored 3 goals for the Cougars in the North Suburban Prairie match.

Alex Ludolph added a pair of goals, and Maddie Faragals scored. Katie Burrows and Julia Neary each contributed 2 assists, and Ziggy Jezorksi also had an assist for Vernon Hills (5-6-1).

Grayslake Central 4, Dundee-Crown 1: Quin Garbett scored twice for the Rams in the Fox Valley Conference match.

Warren 3, Mundelein 1: Alliyah Parker, Teagon Albert and Sangjun Hornewer scored for the Blue Devils in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Parker, Albert and Courtney Chomko had assists for Warren (7-4-1, 3-0).

Libertyville 2, Lake Forest 0: Annie Thompson scored both goals for the Wildcats in their North Suburban Lake win.

Ellen Daugerdas had an assist for Libertyville (6-3, 1-1).
