Fugitive had frequented bar where he was killed

A murder suspect shot dead in a confrontation with police Saturday outside a Lake County bar had been frequenting the establishment in the days leading up to the shooting, telling employees he was in town to settle his dead brother's estate. Denise Peterson, a bartender at Toppers Sports Bar, said she served Gerald R. Boyes, 53, of Jacksonville, Florida, on three occasions and spoke with him about his brother, a former bar regular who was struck and killed in August by a woman accused of drunken driving. Antioch Township woman charged in shooting

An Antioch Township woman was in custody at the Lake County jail on Sunday facing felony charges alleging she shot a man in the hand during a domestic dispute at her home early Saturday. Vickie V. Orsini-Harvey, 54, of West Hilldale Avenue, is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, Lake County sheriff's police said. Elk Grove library patrons show talent at Maker Day

Projects involving robotics, 3-D printing, soldering and origami were among the dozens of displays Sunday at the Elk Grove Village Public Library. The Maker Day event gave visitors a chance to learn about various forms of art, science, technology, engineering and mathematics through demonstrations, engineering challenges and hands-on activities. Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash

A motorcyclist seriously injured in a crash Sunday evening in unincorporated Lake County was taken to a hospital by helicopter, fire officials said. Crews from the Cary Fire Protection District responded to Fox River Road just east of Hickory Nut Grove Road. Full story.
