Police: Counterfeit bills discovered at Hawthorn mall

A 25-year-old Chicago man was charged with forgery after trying to use counterfeit cash at Hawthorn mall last week, Vernon Hills police said Monday. Police said Rajon R. Liddell tried to buy eight articles of clothing at the J.C. Penney store valued at $308. The four bills presented as payment were determined to be counterfeit, police said, and the employee refused the sale. Liddell left but was taken into custody without incident in the mall parking lot. A search turned up 16 additional counterfeit bills, according to police, totaling $1,520. Liddell was charged with two counts of forgery and was held in Lake County jail on $75,000 bail.
