Learn About Local Stream Ecosystems April 22 at College of DuPage

The College of DuPage Environmental Club will host "Stream Ecosystems of Northeastern Illinois: Past, Present and Future," a discussion by Stephen Pescitelli of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Division of Fisheries, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22, in the Student Services Center, Room 3245, on the College's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

Pescitelli's presentation will include an outline of the current conditions of local river systems, including the DuPage River system; a review of aquatic ecosystem fundamentals and how fish are used to gauge stream health; and a review of current Department of Natural Resources (DNR) programs currently used to monitor and improve our river ecosystems.

Northeastern Illinois contains some globally unique ecosystems, as well as the largest urban areas in the country. Most recent glacial activity has created a variety landscapes and a wide variety of aquatic habitat types, including glacial lakes, low gradient headwater creeks, rocky mid-sized streams and larger river habitats.
