CLC holds reception for student journal

The literary arts are alive and well at the College of Lake County.

From 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Room C003, at the College of Lake County, Prairie Voices, CLC's student literary/art journal, will host a reception honoring the students whose work was accepted for publication.

This year's issue includes short stories, essays, poems from 60 writers and visual art by 17 students. The 2013-14 edition won first place in the central division of the Community College Humanities Association 2014 Literary Magazine Competition.

"Many of these students are published for the very first time and have chosen stirring themes to explore in their writing," said Dr. Nicholas Schevera, CLC English professor and editor.

The 126-page book includes interesting topics and themes such as memories, bravery, love, cancer, rage and being overweight. For more information, contact the Communication Arts, Humanities and Fine Arts division at (847) 543-2040.

Copies will be available for sale at the reception and at CLC Bookstores. The College of Lake County is at 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
