Baseball: Buffalo Grove brings the bats
Buffalo Grove's baseball team stretched its unbeaten streak to four games by topping host Hoffman Estates 12-3 on Friday in Mid-Suburban League play behind a 14-hit attack.
Leading the way for the Bison (5-5, 2-0-1) were Joey Pinakidis (2-for-5, 3 RBI), Ben Moran (3-for-5, double), Tyler Rundquist (2-for-5) and John Carpinelli (2 RBI, double).
Starter Jack Churchill allowed 2 earned runs over 4 innings to get the win, and Chris Fox got a 3-inning save.
Dylan Bloom had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Hoffman Estates (5-5, 0-3).
Schaumburg 7, Hersey 2: The host Saxons won their second straight by getting great production at the top of the batting order plus a quality start from Andrew Ralston.
Jacob Rintz, Ralston, Tommy Larsen and Parker Nolan finished a combined 9-for-13 in the top four spots for Schaumburg (8-4, 2-1).
Larsen doubled twice, Nolan drove in 3 runs, Rintz had a pair of hits and scored twice and Ralston had 3 hits.
On the mound, Ralston lasted 5 innings, striking out eight and giving up 1 earned run.
Tyler Haffey, Alberto Garcia and Zach Blevins each had a pair of hits for Hersey (3-7, 1-2).
Conant 8, Rolling Meadows 7: The host Cougars weathered a 3-run rally in the seventh inning to earn an MSL victory.
Nick Roberts doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Jimmy Brady finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Conant (5-7, 1-2).
Rolling Meadows leadoff man Jack Lincoln went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, while Marco Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Hank Holm doubled.
The Mustangs (0-8, 0-3) out-hit the Cougars but committed 4 errors.
Elk Grove 3, Palatine 0: Christian Camacho (4 IP) and Joe Lopez (3 IP) combined on a 4-hit shutout to help the visiting Grens pick up an MSL decision.
Lopez, Chuck Fleming and Jakub Sokol each had 2 hits for Elk Grove (6-5-1, 1-1-1). Fleming, Lopez and A.J. Lorenz each had a double.
Ryan Anderson allowed 1 earned run over 5 innings for Palatine (6-6, 1-2).
Fremd 3, Wheeling 0: The host Vikings (4-3, 2-1) got a double and 2 RBI from Jake LaGasse, and Jack Molnar had a pair of hits as Fremd made efficient use of its 4 hits.
Starter Jared Swenson allowed 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out over his 6 innings, and Justin Castillo earned a save by pitching a perfect seventh inning, striking out two.
