Softball: Radke fans 11 in Grayslake Central's win

Reagen Radke struck out 11 batters in a complete-game effort, and Grayslake Central pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Crystal Lake Central 2-1 in its Fox Valley Conference Fox Division opener on Friday.

Teagan Truskowski was 2-for-2 for Grayslake Central (6-4), while Lindsay Brust had a double.

Radke (6-3) allowed 4 hits, including a home run to Savanah Frank.

Lakes 16, Carmel 5: An 11-run explosion in the fourth inning lifted the Eagles to the nonconference win.

Lakes' fourth inning included a two-run single by Melanie Grupka, a two-run double by Rachel Becker (3-for-5, 5 RBI), an RBI single by Jen Reed, an RBI single by Ally Perdue, a two-run single by Camryn Jones, an RBI single by Georgia Ohren, an RBI single by Grupka, and an RBI single by Becker.

Ashley Horner had a busy day at the plate for the Eagles. She singled in the first and fourth innings, homered in the fifth and doubled in the sixth.

Lakes (9-3) added four more runs in the top of the sixth. Becker doubled in a pair of runs, and Horner added an RBI double.

Carmel (9-4) got home runs from Amanda Elert and Emma Bartz.

Lake Zurich 12, North Chicago 0: Lindsey DeLuga allowed 2 hits over 4 innings and helped herself by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, as the Bears won the North Suburban crossover.

Abby Jokerst was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Amanda Guercio went 1-for-1 with 2 walks and an RBI. Emily Hunt struck out two in her 1 inning in the circle.

Zion-Benton 16, Vernon Hills 6: Tori Williams was 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI for the Zee-Bees in the North Suburban crossover.

Nicole Pieper homered and knocked in three for Vernon Hills (3-10), which also got a double from Dana Meline.

Stevenson 24, Round Lake 0: On Thursday, the Patriots pounded out 24 hits, including home runs by Mic Faunce and Gina Shanley, in the North Suburban crossover, which last five innings.

Stevenson, which improved to 6-4, had scored 82 runs in its last five games heading Friday night's contest against Niles North in Rosemont.

Round Lake got singles from Katie Bleim, Leighlani Yazzie and Charla Ryan.
