Hanover Park police ask for help in naming new K-9

The Hanover Park Police Department has a new K-9, and they are asking for the public's help in naming him.

The German shepherd comes from Grayslake's TOPS Kennel, an organization that pairs dogs with their handlers. Hanover Park's new K-9 is paired with Officer Brian Wiebe.

Deputy Police Chief Andrew Johnson says this is the department's third K-9, and Wiebe's first time working as part of the unit.

They're inviting anyone who has liked the department's Facebook page to suggest a name for the new K-9 by commenting on the post pinned to the top of its Facebook page by April 19.

Officers will choose up to five of the best names and put them up for a vote on Facebook.

Names that are obscene, offensive, insulting or may be perceived as derogatory to anyone should be avoided, police said.
