David Adler Center to host 'Speakeasy' benefit

The David Adler Music & Arts Center's annual "Speakeasy" benefit will be from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the historic home of renowned architect David Adler.

The event will feature the best of Lake County's artistic, musical, and fine dining offerings, including gourmet cooking demonstrations and specialty small plates by Chef Briana Cardone of Mambo Italiano and The Couture Caterer in Mundelein.

The Highland Park Pops Big Band will provide live jazz for an evening of dancing. Attendees tour Adler's landmark home situated on 11 acres and nominated to the National Register of Historic Places while enjoying Prohibition Era cocktails and gourmet small plates provided by Café Pyrenees, Sunset Foods, and Tsukasa of Tokyo.

Mundelein's Tighthead Brewing Company will feature their fine craft beers, along with wine and signature cocktails by NorthShore Distillery.

Established area artists will donate original works of art to the benefit's silent art auction. Paintings, prints, fiber art and photography will be offered for auction. Robert Klunk, a longtime friend of the David Adler Music & Arts Center, recognized for his signature etching of the Chicago Museum Campus, has contributed art to the auction, as have Stephanie Toral, Tanya Facchini, and Marcia Babler, who have all recently displayed work in the Adler Center Exhibition Series.

"It will be an evening of gourmet food, dancing, bourbon-tastings, and great art. It's a fun night out and a great way to give back and support the Adler Center," Program Coordinator Heather Williamson said.

Tickets for the event are $75 per person. Purchase tickets in advance by visiting www.adlercenter.org.

For more than 35 years, the David Adler Music and Arts has offered music and art classes, scholarships and free art exhibits, and has hosted communitywide events like Fine Arts Month and the Annual Festival of the Arts held every August in Cook Park.

The Adler Center's only annual benefit will maintain and grow the center's offerings of exceptional art and music instruction, summer camps, workshops, concerts and art exhibitions.

The David Adler Music and Arts Center is at 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
