Softball: Conant cruises to 17-4 win

Five Conant batters had at least 2 hits as the Cougars softball team hiked its record to 4-0 and 2-0 in the Mid-Suburban West with a 17-4 triumph at Buffalo Grove on Wednesday.

Leading the Conant offense were Makenna McCarthy (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 runs), Jackie Burchfield (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 runs), Morgan Bihun (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Sydney Correa (2-for-3, double RBI, 1 run) and Delaney Szwed (2-for-3, home run, 4 RBI, 2 runs).

Junior Sam Gadomski worked the first 3 innings on the mound for Conant while classmate Sara Prasbrig threw the final two innings. Each had a double.

Junior Grace Gran (1-for-2, 4 RBI, 1 run) homered for host BG (2-5, 0-2) while freshman Bailey Williams was 2-for-2.

Schaumburg 10, Rolling Meadows 0 (6 inn.): Georgia Coastal-bound Paige Alt (2-2) threw a 1-hitter with 13 strikeouts and also went 4-for-4 at the plate with 2 home runs and 5 RBI for the visiting Saxons (3-3, 2-0).

Other multiple hitters for Schaumburg were Christina Candotti (3-for-4, home run, triple), Kaiden Jackson (2-for-3, triple) and Brittney Butt (3-for-4).

The only hit for Meadows (6-2, 0-2) came in the fourth inning on a single by Elizabeth Elkins.

Fremd 14, Prospect 0: Visiting Fremd (7-0, 2-0) remained perfect as Kylie Hess went 4-for-5 in Mt. Prospect.

the Vikings scored all the runs it would need in the top of the second.

AnnMarie O'Sullivan (3-for-5) doubled, stole third base scored on an RBI groundout by Reagan Schneider. Hess reached on an infield single and scored on Becca Uhrich's double. Uhrich (2-for-4) came home on a single to left by Abby Iuorio (2-for-4, walk).

Other key hitters for Fremd were Jessica Mazur (2-for-5, 2 doubles) and Schneider (2-for-5, double, walk, 3 RBI).

Prospect (1-4, 0-2) stranded nine runners on base while threatening each inning.

Lauren Caldrone had 2 hits including a double for Prospect. Teammates Alyssa Cacini, Jackie Orel and Lindsey Lecomte each had one.

Sophomore Nikki Kehoe (6-0) earned the win over Delilah Malczewski (0-1).

Palatine 17, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Maddie Craver (6 strikeouts, no walks) earned her second win in as many days for the visiting Pirates (2-5, 2-1) in the MSL crossover.

The only hit for Wheeling (0-2, 0-2) was a single by Olivia Walker in the fourth inning.

Top hitters for Palatine were Grace Huff (2-for-5, 2 RBI), Emily Griffin (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Emily Parrott (3-for-5, 2 RBI), Brooke Bauer (double, 2 RBI) and Craver (double).

Hersey 20, Hoffman Estates 10 (6 inn.): Katie Wingerter went 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 doubles to lead host Hersey (3-3, 1-1) in the MSL crossover.

Teammate Jackie Bednar was 3-for-5 with a homer while Maddie Flynn also belted a homer for Hersey.

Other multiple hitters for Hersey were Mikayla Tsagalis (2-for-4), Jodie Hermann (2-for-3, double), Kim Labahn (2-for-3, double), Remy Gerew (3-for-5, 2 doubles) and Brianna Luciano (2-for-5).

Luciano threw the second through fifth innings to earn the win.

Mary Bean (2-for-3, 2 homers), Brynn Connelly (2-for-3, double) and Veronica Cardella (2-for-2) led the offense for Hoffman (3-5, 1-2).

St. Viator 10, Immaculate Conception 8: Meg Naughton had 2 doubles and Jenna Breslin on for the visiting Lions (4-4), who scored 8 runs in the second inning.

In that big inning, the Lions sent 13 hitters to the plate and had 9 hits, including two by Adie Swiderski.

Lions left fielder Olivia Michalik saved a run with a diving catch in the bottom of the seventh. Center fielder Cam VanValkenburg raced to the warning track to catch the third out and end the game.
