Having fun at STEAM Night at St. Hubert School

St. Hubert School students and their families participated in a STEAM Night on March 31. STEAM is an acronym for "Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math." Participants worked with teacher created hands-on-activities and had fun exploring the exciting world of engineering.

Families worked as a team to design and create a prosthetic hand under engineering constraints while using limited materials. The "Five Point Traffic Jam" family activity tapped into civil engineering design requiring spatial and visualization teamwork.

Busy Brains Children's Museum brought its traveling exhibits to complement the STEAM focus. The "Bernoulli Box" helped participants understand air flow and how airplanes stay in flight. Children manipulated gears and explored the concepts of radial and linear motion using the "Geariosity" activity.

One of the most popular activities of the night involved use of PVC pipes and connectors. Children wore hard hats while exploring civil engineering concepts in this team building activity. One parent remarked, "I don't know who had more fun; me or my son!"

St. Hubert Catholic School is located in Hoffman Estates, serving students in preschool through eighth grade. Visit www.sthubertschool.org for registration information.
