Maine District 207 plans $1 million in roof repairs

Maine Township High School District 207 will spend more than $1 million this summer to repair roofs at all three of its schools and the district's administration center.

Inspections have found multiple leaks and moisture infiltration on portions of roofs, and district officials decided to include repair work as part of their annual summer capital projects list, which totals $3.5 million.

The roof repairs include:

• A complete removal and replacement of the roof on the administration building, 1177 S. Dee Road in Park Ridge;

• Replacement of the Maine East fine arts wing roof and repairs to the auditorium roof;

• Roof repairs and tuckpointing on the south side of Maine West's spectator gym hallway; and

• Replacement of the Maine South cafeteria and mechanical room roofs.

The total amount of roofing contracts awarded by the school board last week was $1,090,000.

The district also is planning $469,860 in parking lot paving and sealcoating projects at the three schools.

Other major summer projects include pool mechanical upgrades at Maine East and Maine South. The board is expected to approve contracts for that work, estimated to cost between $400,000 and $500,000, next month, according to Mary Kalou, the district's assistant superintendent for business.
