Former student is District 212 Loyal Eagle Award winner

It is a long-standing tradition for District 212 to honor those who share their talents, skills, experience and time with Leyden students. This March the district announced Juan Salgado as the Loyal Eagle Award winner for the 2015-16 school year. Salgado, who was nominated by soccer coach Mark Valintis, was recognized for his continued loyalty to District 212 students during a recent board of education meeting.

Salgado, who graduated from West Leyden in 2012, played soccer at Leyden for four years and was on the 2011 Regional Championship team. During the past two years he has been a volunteer assistant coach for the varsity soccer team that has won back to back regional championships and this year advanced to the Sweet 16.

"Juan has been a valuable part of our success especially at practice," says Valintis, head coach of the boys soccer team. "The coaching staff is able to accomplish more at practice because of Juan as he is able to offer his time, talent and experience to help improve individual players and the team overall."
