Softball: Burlington Central sweeps Rockford Christian

The Burlington Central softball team tuned up for its Big Northern East showdown with Marengo on Tuesday by sweeping a league doubleheader against Rockford Christian on Saturday. The Rockets (6-1, 3-0) won 11-1 and 19-0.

In Game 1, Emily Kisch tossed a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks and had a triple and an RBI to lead BC to the win. Danielle Yurgil (HR, 2 RBI), Kelly Wiater (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Gretchen Schrubbe (2B) and Madison Leone (RBI) also contributed to the offense.

In the nightcap, Ashley Ratliff allowed just 1 hit in 4 innings in the circle and had 2 hits including a home run and 3 RBI. Kisch added a double and 2 RBI, Kristina Ahlers had 3 hits and an RBI, Schrubbe was 4-for-4 with 3 RBI, Yurgil had 3 hits and an RBI and Lindsey Jamrozek and Sarah Kinney each drove in a run.

Huntley 11, Batavia 1: Haley O'Mara and Taylor Pacana each hit home runs to lead Huntley (2-3) to a nonconference win. Also contributing to the offense for the Red Raiders were Jessica Shields (2-for-3, 2B), Tiffany Giese (2-for-4, RBI), Rylie Pprretto (2-for-4, RBI), Autumn Kasal (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Sophia Tenuta (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI). Giese earned the pitching win, allowing 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks. Kaylan Waldron suffered the loss for Batavia (3-1). Jena Bendoraitis drove in the Bulldogs' only run.

Marengo 11, Hampshire 0: Renee Malecke had a double for the Whip-Purs (4-2), who had just 3 hits in this nonconference loss.
