District 54 appoints new Nerge principal, two new assistant principals

The District 54 School Board made three appointments at its meeting on April 7, for positions in the 2016-17 school year.

Kelly Dvoracek - Nerge Principal

Kelly Dvoracek will become the new principal at Nerge Math & Science Academy in Roselle, replacing Brian Lawson who is taking a job in another school district.

Dvoracek is currently the assistant principal at Armstrong and Muir elementary schools in District 54. She was originally hired by District 54 in 2010 as an instructional coach. Previously she worked as a teacher in Cary School District 26.

"I am grateful and humbled by this opportunity and extremely motivated and committed to serving the Nerge community," she said. "I know success requires a lot of hard work and determination, and it is possible because of the support in this room."

Kelly has a bachelor's degree in education from Millikin University, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University and an administrative certificate (Type 75) from Concordia University.

Shaun Conway - Keller Assistant Principal

Shaun Conway will become the assistant principal at Keller Junior High School. He is currently a social studies teacher and the department chair at Huntley High School. Shaun has also taught at Lake Park and Elk Grove high schools.

"The standards this district sets forth are something that is very impressive," he said. "I look forward to serving District 54."

Shaun has a bachelor's degree in history education from Illinois State University and a master's degree in school leadership from Concordia University.

Betty Weir - Lakeview Assistant Principal

Betty Weir will become the assistant principal at Lakeview School. Betty is currently a curriculum coordinator in Winnetka Public Schools. She started teaching in 2008 after getting a master's degree in elementary education from DePaul University. She also has a master's degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University.

"I feel very fortunate to be joining a school team that exudes such energy," she said. "I look forward to working with the staff to meet the needs of our Lakeview students."

The School Board voted in December to promote Lakeview's current assistant principal, Julie Tarasiuk, to the principal position at Einstein. Julie will fill the vacancy that will be created when Einstein Principal Maribeth Kanoon retires in June.
