Call for 2016 Distinguished Alumni nominations

Harper College is now accepting nominations for its 2016 Distinguished Alumni Awards, an annual honor saluting former students who have achieved exceptional success in their career and made a positive impact in the community.

Since the awards were first handed out in 2008, 48 recipients representing a variety of educational journeys and professional paths have been honored. Distinguished Alumni include mayors, a fire chief, a National Geographic-honored geo-archaeologist, a former NFL player, an Emmy-nominated screenwriter, entrepreneurs and accomplished health care workers.

In November, five additional standout alumni will join this select group during a celebratory reception and awards ceremony. Recipients must also agree to return to campus during the year to be a guest speaker or participate in an activity designed to engage students.

"The Distinguished Alumni Awards are a way to recognize former students who have gone on to achieve great things in their careers and positively impact the community," said Fredia Martin, director of alumni relations and affinity groups. "Their stories inevitably inspire current students who see they can also go on to become accomplished professionals and leaders."

The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, May 16. Visit harpercollege.edu/alumni for more information on the award criteria, nominating instructions and past recipients.
