Police ID suspect in Waukegan carjacking, Gurnee robbery

Police are looking for a man they suspect committed a carjacking in Waukegan on Thursday and an armed robbery in Gurnee on Friday morning.

With the help of video footage provided by College of Lake County police, authorities have identified the suspect as 27-year-old Christopher Hornezes.

He is wanted by Gurnee on a warrant for armed robbery and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and by Waukegan on a warrant for armed robbery and carjacking, authorities said.

"We are definitely considering this person armed and dangerous, said Waukegan police Cmdr. Joe Florip.

Waukegan police responded to a report of a carjacking Thursday morning in the area of Clayton Street and North Genesee Street. The victim was parking in an alley when she was approached by a dark-skinned man n a light gray hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Police said the thief displayed a knife and then engaged in a brief struggle with the victim, who suffered minor injuries. The carjacker fled south on North Genesee street in the victim's vehicle, a silver 2004 Hyundai Elantra.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, Gurnee police received a call about armed robbery that had just occurred at a business on the 6900 block of Grand Avenue.

Police said a black man described as 5-foot-6-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds entered the business and displayed a knife.

The man, who was dressed as a woman in a long beige shirt, blue skinny jeans and a brown wig with a ponytail, took an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a silver 2004 Hyundai Elantra.

Florip said a break in the case came when College of Lake County police made available video footage taken in the area of the college's Lakeshore Campus, located at 33 N. Genesee St. in Waukegan.
