ECC will host Latino Film Festival April 15-17

Elgin Community College will host the 2016 Latino Film Festival Elgin from Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17. This is the fourth year the college will host the festival, which features films from Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States.

The festival kicks off on Friday, April 15, with the screening of the Colombian family comedy film "Pa! Por mis hijos lo que sea!" at 6 p.m. in the Building G Spartan Auditorium, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The 2015 comedy by Harold Trompetero tells the story of a father who after losing his job does all he can to keep his family happy.

An opening reception follows the filming at 8 p.m. Tickets to the film and reception is $30, $20 for students and seniors. Tickets to see the film only are $15, $12 for students and seniors.

All films are in Spanish with English subtitles. Directors and actors from some of the films also will appear to share the experience of making their productions

The remaining films will be shown at Marcus Theaters, 111 S. Randall Road, Elgin. Tickets to each film are $15, $12 for students and seniors. Tickets to all events can be purchased at the door, by phone at (800) 344-0538, or online at www.latinofilmfestivalelgin.com.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, April 16, see the 2015 Chilean film "Perla/Pearl"by director Sergio M. Castilla. It follows a dog, abandoned by her owner in Santiago, Chile, who joins other stray dogs on the streets until she meets Samuel, who reluctantly adopts her. At 7 p.m., the 2015 Mexican comedy/drama "Ilusiones, S.A/Ilusions, Inc." by director Roberto Girault follows a group of professional actors who are hired by a wealthy man to impersonate the family of his grandson.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, April 17, the 2016 U.S./México documentary "Club Frontera" by director Chris Cashman tells how a professional soccer team in Tijuana brings a city together. At 7 p.m., the 2015 comedy "Una Boda en Castañer" by director Raul Garcia tells the story of Mariana, who returns to her small Puerto Rican town before graduating from medical school, to fulfill her father's wishes and get married.

The festival is sponsored by ECC President's Office, the ECC Humanities Center, ECC Student Life, MAGIC, GIST, the City of Elgin, and the City of Elgin Cultural Arts Commission.
