Des Plaines community development director resigns

George Sakas, Des Plaines' director of community and economic development, announced Thursday he is resigning effective April 15.

Sakas, hired in December 2013, said he will be taking care of a family farm in western Illinois left by his father who died last October.

He said he expects to work in community development for a municipality again, and didn't rule out another run for Antioch village board, on which he served from 2009 to 2013.

He pointed to redevelopment plans at Mannheim and Higgins roads and a proposed Mariano's at Golf and Mount Prospect roads as the biggest projects he worked on in Des Plaines.
