Ex-Deere employee from Iowa charged with $250,000 fraud

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) - A federal judge in Illinois has set a June trial for a former employee of Deere and Company from Iowa who is accused of defrauding at least $250,000 from the Moline company.

Harvey Ulfers of Cedar Falls, Iowa, appeared before U.S. District Judge Sara Darrow in Rock Island on Tuesday. She scheduled his trial on wire fraud and money laundering charges for June 6. He was allowed to remain free on bond.

The March 22 indictment against the 62-year-old was unsealed Tuesday. It claims Ulfers defrauded Deere from 2004 to early 2013 in his position as a purchasing supervisor at the company's Waterloo, Iowa, facility. The fraud involved the sale of scrap metal.

Ulfers attorney, Donovan Robertson of Rock Island, didn't immediately respond to a call and email seeking comment.
