Westmont man to be freed from jail after pleading to child porn charges

A Westmont man convicted of possessing child pornography is set to be released from DuPage County jail after spending a year behind bars.

Rylan S. Malis, 29, of the 700 block of West 65th Street, was arrested in March 2015 and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography.

Malis ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of child pornography and was sentenced Wednesday to 180 days in jail and 30 months of sex offender probation, during which he is not allowed to access the internet or have interactions with anyone younger than 18.

Detectives from the DuPage County sheriff and Wheaton police discovered child pornography on electronic devices in his possession during a search at the Westmont address. The search followed an online investigation of Malis.
