Bartlett High theater makes school and District U-46 history

Bartlett High School's 2016 Group Interpretation theatrical production of "The Purple Rose of Cairo" by Woody Allen competed in the IHSA Group Interpretation Sectional Competition on March 19 at Lake Park High School.

They competed against eight other schools and took second place, which advanced them to the IHSA Group Interpretation State Competition at the University of Illinois in Springfield on April 1-2.

This was the first time that Bartlett High School or any U-46 high school had advanced to the state tournament for Group Interpretation. Furthermore, 10 out of the 13 cast members received the All-Sectional Cast Award for their excellence in acting.

Actors needed to receive at least three of the five judges' votes to earn this award. Recipients of this award were: Matt Barry, Zach Barry, Alisa Christensen, Lexi Colatorti, Andrew Harper, Andrew Leardi, Sean McGee, Natalie Payne, Kinga Smutek, and Sam Witz.

Students Mikey Cyrier, Samantha Martino and Nathan O'Brien all received two judges' votes and were one vote away from receiving this award. Bartlett High School received the most All-Sectional Cast Awards out of all the other schools competing in the sectional tournament.

At the IHSA State Competition this past weekend, the cast had an excellent performance for their first state appearance, but did not place in the top 6.
