Softball: Fremd, Rolling Meadows stay unbeaten with shutouts
Nikki Kehoe and Fremd's softball team have been a winning combination this spring.
The sophomore right-hander and the Vikes each improved to 4-0 on Tuesday with a 14-0, five-inning nonconference victory at Cary-Grove.
Kehoe fired a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts.
Leading the Fremd offense were Abby Iuorio (2-for-3, 2 runs), Alyssa Garcia (3-for-3, 4 runs, RBI), Julia Wacker (2-for-2, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Ann Marie O'Sullivan (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Reagan Schneider (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Lexi D'Ambrosio (2-for-3), who caught Kehoe's gem.
Jessica Mazur, Becca Uhrich and D'Ambrosio each doubled for the Vikings.
Rolling Meadows 15, Addison Trail 0 (5 inn.): Junior ace Lydia Schultz raised her record to 5-0 by tossing a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and no walks.
Top hitters for the Mustangs (5-0) were Paige Conner (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Sara Benner (1-for-2, 2 RBI), Elizabeth Elkins (1-for-2), Megan King (1-for-3) and Meghan Slowik (double, 3 RBI).
King also sparkled defensively at first base, including making a diving catch of a foul ball.
New Trier 10, Maine West 0 (5 inn.): Maine West (1-3) had 2 hits from Allison Pearson and Jordan Hart in the Central Suburban League crossover.
Grayslake Central 8, Buffalo Grove 2: Junior Jasmine Avalos had a triple and 2 RBI for the host Bison (2-3) in the nonconference game. Sophomore teammate Olivia Morini added 2 singles while junior Katie Fontanetta and freshman Hannah Young had one apiece.
Prairie Ridge 9, Palatine 0: Maddie Craver doubled and teammates Grace Huff, Victoria Parrott, Emily Parrott and Brooke Bauer each singled for the visiting Pirates (0-3) in the nonconference game.
