Elgin man faces weapon charge after police respond to shots fired

A 26-year-old Elgin man has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after police responded to a report of gunshots on the 500 block of Aller Avenue Sunday morning, according to an Elgin Police Department news release.

Police said multiple gunshots were heard at 1:04 a.m. Sunday and when they arrived found a large group of people in the vicinity. In a search of the area, police found a discarded handgun and evidence indicating a handgun had been fired, according to the release.

Deondrae L. Clements, 26, of the 500 block of Stella Court, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after police found him to be in possession of the handgun, police said.

Clements' bail was set at $100,000 Monday in Cook County.
