WBBM radio mourns death of longtime anchor Dave Mitchell

Members of WBBM news radio newsroom are mourning the loss their friend and colleague Dave Mitchell.

The longtime station anchor died in a single car crash Sunday morning in Merrillville, Indiana.

Mitchell was a member of the WBBM team since 1992, working as a traffic reporter at the Sears Skydeck during both drive times, as a reporter/anchor, and a stint as weekend sports reporter. He also contributed to WBBM's coverage of the Chicago Air and Water Show every year.

"Dave Mitchell was a bright, thoughtful and eager veteran journalist; a consummate professional," said WBBM Newsradio Managing Editor Julie Mann. "He was one of the good guys, dedicated to his craft whether in studio or overlooking the Chicago Air and Water Show where he thrived. We loved him, and will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his wife and his children."

Mitchell a full-time broadcaster since 1973, at several stations in Chicagoland.

He was 60 years old.
