Governor takes part in school's first career day

Gov. Bruce Rauner addressed students Monday at a packed Norris Cultural Arts Center as St. Charles East High School held its inaugural career day.

Rauner spoke mostly about the importance of education to his agenda.

"My whole job is all about making sure you get a great education, the best in America," Rauner said to the group. "And that whatever you want to be when you get out of school, you can be it right in Illinois."

"That's the reason I ran for governor, to make sure we have the best schools in America," he said.

During a question-and-answer session he told students who were interested in public service that it doesn't require any particular education or career training.

"If you have an interest in public service, just find a way to get involved," he said. "It's all about the work ethic and following your heart and your passion.

"No matter what else you choose to do in life, find time to get involved in the governmental public service political process, whether you're a Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter," he said. "Get involved and you can make a difference."
