Police: Waukegan dollar store held up twice in two days

Waukegan police are searching for a man who demanded money from the cashier of a dollar store at gunpoint, the second armed robbery to the store in as many days, authorities said.

Officers were called 5:50 p.m. Friday to the Family Dollar store, 610 S. Genesee St., police said. The suspect is described as a black man who was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black mask, police said. He was seen fleeing the area on foot, police said. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

On Thursday, the same store was robbed about 12:14 p.m., police said. The suspect was described as a black man who pulled a handgun, was wearing a mask and fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

Though the store was robbed twice in two days, police say they are "currently keeping all options open" in their investigation as to who was responsible.

Anyone with information on either armed robbery is asked to call (847) 360-9001.
